Abstract:Like the physical and life sciences, the social sciences are subject to fraud and ethical misconduct. The historical profession has focused its efforts to combat misconduct in the area of plagiarism. The procedures of the American Historical Association—the profession's most inclusive organization—are described, and possibilities for further action are suggested. He was history editor at Yale University Press from 1969 to 1971 and assistant executive secretary of the American Historical Association from 1965 to 1969.
