乙未保台斗争和台湾民主国的成立

从甲午战争开始到烟台换约,中国官员、士大夫和台湾士绅等各种势力就保台一事相继提出了各种挽救措施。反割台斗争是清廷各级官员与台湾士绅的共同行动,并非台湾绅民的孤立之举。由于诸官绅没有认清当时的国际和国内形势,过分倚重外援,在弱肉强食的时代,各项措施最终付于流水。因此,面对日本索割台湾的现实,台湾绅民成立台湾民主国,进行自主保台。

The Struggle to Defend Taiwan in YiWei-year and the Establishment of Republic of Formosa

From the beginning of Sino-Japanese War,Chinese officials,scholar-officials and Taiwan people have been defending Taiwan in a variety of efforts so as to save the territory of china.The struggle against cession of Taiwan was not only the action of Taiwan people but also the Qing dynasty gentry officials.As the various gentry did not make clear the international and domestic situation,over-depended on foreign aids,neglected its own improvement,all of those had led to a bad result: Japan had seized Taiwan Islands successfully.Facing the reality of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan,Taiwan people set up Republic of Formosa in order to defend the territory of China.
