“高禖”祭祀是一种祈孕子嗣的祭祀形式。早在母系氏族社会时期,就有祭祀“高”的神话传说。“高”祭祀在周代正式成为国家祭祀的一部分,祭祀的目的、仪式、膜拜对象等方面更为成熟。这种祭祀活动深受政治、经济、文化等多种因素的影响,其本身具有丰富的文化内涵,体现出传统的生育文化的核心内容,即“重生”“重男”思想。
