Some scholars hold that Bheliecohev is in sharp conflict with his environment,but this paper,by giving a detailed analysis of the relations between the characters in Hidden Man and Vinegar Chestnut,proposes that the relation between the heroes and their environment is not in the nature of conflict but of mutual reaction and support.In such novels,the clash between the heroes and their environment is mainly reflected in the conflict between them and the base social circumstances.
