Abstract: | The rationale for career education is linked to the current transformations in the concepts and structures of work and of
career, and the need to enable individuals not to choose but to construct their career. Current career education provision in the UK and in other European countries is described. A number of key
issues are addressed: timing, content, method, models of delivery, progression and assessment. It is argued that clearer evidence
on these issues, based on cross-national studies, is required.
