Abstract: | A major goal of the Primary Education Project (PEP) and Individually Prescribed Instruction (IPI) programs is to adapt the educational system to individual differences. The extent to which this adaptation occurs is under continuous study and evaluation. The major purposes of this pilot study were: (1) to determine whether or not distinctive patterns of behavior exist for students of different learning characteristics (e.g. learning rate), and (2) whether or not and the degree to which the IPI system succeeds in adapting its instructional procedures to these behavior patterns.Learning Research and Development Center University of PittsburghThe research reported in this paper was supported in part by a grant from the Ford Foundation, and in part by a grant from the United States Office of Education to the Learning Research and Development Center.
