Re-evaluation of Yan Fu's Translation ofA Short History of Politics From the Perspective of Skopos Theory

An ideal translation requires that a competent translator make full use of all subjective and objective advantages in a subtle way, give full play to his dynamism and avoid the limitations of negative factors to the extreme extent. An excellent translation is usually the combination of the pillar Chinese national culture and the advanced Western thought. Today, a re-evaluation of Yan Fu's translation of Edward Jenks' A Short History of Politicswith the Skopos theory serves to shed light on a better understanding of Yan Fu's translation thought and a further understanding of the dynamism of a translator.
