《三国演义》是我国古代的四大奇书之一。拥刘反曹既是作者的基本立场。也是全书的结构主线。在三国鼎立之势中,东吴一方陷入了一种较为尴尬的境地。既不是作者极力歌颂的汉家后裔,也不是鞭挞批判的篡权贼子,而主帅周瑜这一形象在夹缝中不断地徘徊,一会儿是神勇无比、屡建奇功的英雄,一会儿是心胸狭窄、愚蠢无比的小丑,不同的性格奇怪地缠绕在一起,塑造成了一个扭曲的文学形象。
