Sin and Salvation in The Crucible

In the tragedy The Crucible,Proctor unwittingly activates various desires and evils of some people in the village of Salem because of his sin of adultery,which in turn brings tremendous disaster to himself and other innocent people.He has been unable to face up to his sin for a long time,but when he was pressed by the overwhelming power of law and religion,with the help of his wife,he eventually defeats his sin,weakness and diffidence,recovers his pure soul thus redeems himself.This lost lamb finally returns to the embrace of God.He holds onto the truth,safeguards man＇s conscience,gains a new life and becomes a saint.This tragedy highlights the brightest side of human nature under severe test in the real society and reaffirms the audience＇s confidence in the restoration of humanity.
