Practical Approaches to Improve the Competence of Discourse Reading

The competence of English reading comprehension plays an important role in the general capacity for learners to use English in their daily lives,study and work.Therefore,English teachers and educators keep on searching for approaches and researching on new methodologies of reading course to improve the learners' reading ability.According to long years of teaching practice,the author establishes a set of practice-based reading methods.This paper states how the learners are guided to transform from superficial understanding of the reading materials into discourse understanding in three aspects:the mastery of vocabularies and reading skills,the improvement of discourse analyzing ability,in order to reach the final goal of greatly improving the comprehensive English level of the learners.
