The influence of American Civil War to the Southern Literature

American Civil War not noly has great historical significance in economic and political life, but also it is a watershed in the history of American Literature. It brought the end of Romanticism period and the beginning of Realism period. What's more, it has surprisingly influenced on American Southern Literature. Because the Civil War ended in the failure of the South and the industrialization of the North took the place of planting economy in the South, the noble descendants of the South became normal persons who had to work hard to earn a living. They began to question the value they had believed in. Especially after the Southerners had experienced the failure of the war and the booming of capitalism, the disillusionment and the loss of value were widely felt. So many Southern writers wrote a lot of novels to show the loss and to describe human beings in such a situation. From than on, American Literature came to the age of realism and local colorism.
