| 摘 要： | 清华大学自清华学堂而始,由庚款溢款创办而成新制留美预备学校,几经艰苦努力,逐渐回归国内教育体系并发展成为著名大学.在中国现代化进程的各个领域多有执牛耳的地位和极重要的贡献.抚今追昔,建校之初种种情状往往被人淡忘,可是庚款办学以及蕴于其中的中美关系和清华九十年的奋斗史天然的联系自然脉络不断.以清华学堂的建立和初期的运作为个案,考证庚款退款过程中的中美双方的互动,重点分析驻美公使梁诚的突出作用,并进而揭示这个重要事件对中国现代化的重大意义.
