《万象》的杂志形态(上)

《万象》是一份商业性的,都市大众的综合性文化杂志。《万象》的编辑、写作与出版,是上海沦陷区有良知的文化人的一次反控制、争自由的文化实践。由于编者的更换,《万象》杂志分前、后期,大体说来,前期《万象》主要任务是冲破占领者的封锁,打开言说空间,偏重于市民言说,后期《万象》,偏重于知识分子的言说,这样,经过前后两位编者的努力,《万象》的杂志空间里,就集中了上海沦陷区最广泛的作者,从《万象》里更源源不断地涌现出文学新人。《万象》更吸引了广大的读者,始终保持了上万的销售量,成了“(沦陷区)非常时期的非常(文化)现象”。

The Magazine Pattern of Wanxiang( Ⅰ )

Wanxiang was a comprehensive and commercial cultural periodical intended for the urban populace,the editing,writing and release of which was a cultural practice for freedom and against control on the part of intellectuals of conscience in then enemy-occupied Shanghai.Due to the change of editors,Wanxiang could be divided into the initial and the later stages.Broadly speaking,Wanxiang in its initial stage aimed at breaking through the blockage of the invaders and at providing freedom of speech with a focus on the discourse of city-dwellers while in its later stage it laid stress on the discourse of intellectuals. Thanks to the efforts of two successive editors,a host of writers in then enemy-occupied Shanghai clustered around the periodical,from which many new men of letters had emerged continuously.Therefore,Wanxiang was more appealing to vast numbers of readers with an incessant sale of ten thousand copies,thus having become "the unique(cultural) phenomenon in the special era(in the enemyoccupied area)".
