An Analysis of the Frontier Pass "Karen" and Regulations for Stationning Troops in Qing Dynasty

Karun was a kind of special Frontier Defense system set up by Qing Government. The government sent soldiers garrisoned the Karun called "Zuo Ka". According to the relevant historical data of Northeast, North Desert and Northwest in Qing Dynasty, this paper analyses and concludes the duties of the officials and soldiers in "Zuo Ka" and its administrative methods, proving that the Qing Government put importance on the "Zuo Ka" because of their governmental benefit. The Government took concrete measures and set special laws to make the "Zuo Ka" system be institutionalized.
