The reason for this lies in the persistent adherence to the writing principle of realism on the part of the writer, which has resulted in a breakthrough in the confinement of the mainstream discourse and the author's original intention in creation as well as in being close to the reality of life and history. Meanwhile, it was his solid life accumulation and strong plebian consciousness that caused him to hold fast to the standpoint of the folklore and to integrate folk narrative with political discourse and the meta-narrative with traditional skills, thus having made A Record of the Red Flag transcend artistically by highlighting the national character handed down from generation to generation and verifying some political notions to the neglect of the then popular mode of fiction.
