Modern Chinese Education: Perspectives of both Western and Oriental Worlds

After 1840, a large number of foreigners came t o China. Both the Western scholars and Japanese scholars were very much concerne d with the traditional Chinese education. After making a multilevel and multi-v isual evaluation, the authors put forward feasible opinions and recommendations for the new education in China. Westerners and Japanese scholars have different value ori entations of "benevolence", "falial obedience" and "loyalty" of the Chines e traditional ethics and virtues. As to the Sino-Western relations, the scholar s in the West and in Japan emphasize three aspects: absorption, abadonment and i ntegration.
