Symbolism In The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby, written by F. S. Fitzgerald, allegorically portrayed the theme of the American dream by using many techniques. The most important one is symbolism,which he succeeded in using to define the essential qualities of his own age. There are some dominant images in the novel, such as the green light, the automobile, the magic shirts, and Gatsby's smile, etc. All these symbols are closely related to Gatsby's dream and also imply that his dream is rooted in the whole history and society of America.
