《镀金时代》是马克·吐温与华纳合写的一部小说 ,也是马克吐温的第一部长篇小说。小说运用现实主义的手法大胆揭露了美国南北战争以后 ,资本主义发展阶段的腐朽黑暗 ,作者对资产阶级的民主制度进行了辛辣的讽刺 ,对当时流行全国的投机流行病 ,贪污受贿进行了揭露 ,作者通过自己的亲身经历和目睹的社会现象运用精湛的艺术手法把社会真实提炼概括浓缩在他的一部小说中 ,使当时的腐败景象完全呈现在读者眼前 ,并给了这个时代取了个高度概括性的名称 :“镀金时代”。

"The Gilded Age"--A Novel Named for the Time

The Gilded Age" is a novel written by Mark Twain and Warner and the first novel by Mark Twain. Using the realistic method the novel expresses the rotten and darkness of the developing bourgeois class after the American Civil War. The authors show their irony to the bourgeois democratic system and expose the corruption and bribery and the epidemic speculations which were popular all over the country. Through their own experience and witness of the social phenomena, the authoors put the social reality in a novel with skillful artistic techniques and put in front of us the rotten scenes of the time which was called by the authors as the "Gilded Age".
