太平军东征前的苏州社会经济现状探析

明末清初,苏州的商品经济出现繁荣之势,走在全国前列,然而到乾嘉年间,赋税的沉重、社会的混乱,经济的发展受到影响。太平军的到来,给苏州带来新的经济思想,同时它也带走了苏州往日的经济地位。苏州的经济虽然继续发展着,但无论速度和规模都已不及上海。苏州逐步成为上海的"后花园",富商巨贾、商铺林立的繁荣之下隐藏着一种时代变化。

An Analysis of Social and Economic Situation in Suzhou before Taiping Army's Expedition

In late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, the commodity economy in Suzhou tended to thrive and had the leading position in the whole country. However, to the years of Jiaqing Emperor, the heavy tax and turbulent situation exerted influ- ence on the economic growth. The arrival of Taiping army brought the new economic thought, and at the same time they broke the Suzhou＇s economic status of the past. Though its economy was still developing, both its speed and scale began to lag be- hind Shanghai. And gradually, Suzhou became the back garden of that place. Certain changes of the time were hidden behind the prosperity： rich merchants and numerous shops and stores.
