Immigrants, Cultural Identity and Literary Writing

Every era has its own literary works in which are presented different cultural aspects because of diverse national boundaries and regions as well as the mobility of identities. Under the impetuous impact of glohalization and information technology, Singapore Chinese prose has constituted its own unique traits of post - modernity, for the prose has portrayed various aspects of fife ranging from the emotional inclination of local writers to the marginlized wavering of immigrants by means of the metaphoric symbols of language in either an uninhibited or constrained manner, just like the pulsation of a metropolis. Through their arduous efforts, Singaporean Chinese writers, basing themselves on the ishmd nation-Singapore and having the world in view, have aspired, in a situation dominated by economy and English, to respond to and reflect upon the multicultural system, the change of social milieu and metropolitan ideology by virtue of such patterns of human concern as characters, linguistic codes and symbols, thus having presented a type of specific humanistic scene. With their independent spirit of humanism, the Singaporean Chinese writers have preserved their consistent human dignity.
