| Abstract: | Tess of the D’Urbervilles is the masterpiece of English literature.Thomas Hardy,the author of this book,describes a tragedy of a peasant irl:Tess.This thesis tries to explore the causes of Tess’s tragedy. Based on analysis, there comes the conclusion that the main reason is the sex discrimination in society.The solution to this unfortunate story is to achieve a real equal status between men and women.And this may finally rely on the social development and the improvement of human civilization. |
