Politeness Phenomena in Internet Chatroom Conversations:A Pragmatic Perspective

The present study probes into the politeness strategies in Internet chatroom conversations based on a pragmatic theory.The results show Net friends often employ four politeness strategies: positive politeness strategy,negative politeness strategy,off record politeness strategy,and emoticon politeness strategy.The research reveals that the negative politeness strategy and the positive politeness strategy are most frequently employed by Net friends,followed by the off record politeness strategy and the emoticon politeness strategy.
