| Abstract: | William Faulkner’s long novel Light in August mainly displays how Puritanism and racialism poisons and ruins humanity.The author deepens the theme by using symbols skillfully.A series of images disclose racism accompanied by Calvinism and Puritanism poison human beings,both physically and spiritually.In addition,they arouse readers’ infinite association.The paper probes into the technique of symbolism through analyze the images appear in the novel—dark room,advance-and-escape and fire and discloses the deep meaning under the images. |
