英语语言性别歧视现象实例研究

语言性别歧视研究作为语言性别差异现象研究的一部分一直为社会语言学家们所关注。本文通过对比20世纪60年代与90年代以后出版的美国《读者文摘》各300篇文章的内容及语言，来看英语语言性别歧视现象是否呈减弱趋势。通过实例研究我们发现，在过去的三、四十年问，通过女权运动以及语言改革浪潮的推动及公众意识的提高，英语语言性别歧视现象有减弱的趋势．并指出语言性别歧视研究对外语教学的意义。

A Case Study of Sexist Language in English

In this case study, articles in Reader＇s Digest in both 60s and 90s （ afterwards） have been analyzed so as to see whether sexist language is diminishing over several decades and in what respects it is changing. Results of this study indicate that over several decades, there is a nonsexist trend in Modern English language in terms of omission, genet- ic pronouns and addressing title ＂Ms. ＂ Also we point out that it is the obligation of the ESL teachers to keep pace with the changes in the language they are teaching. And the ESL teachers should inform the students of those controversies in English language, and to equip them with skills necessary to use a more egalitarian language.
