On the Translation of Classic Chinese Poetry

Through the analyses of many examples, the present article makes it clear that the translation of signified meaning, in the translation of classic Chinese poetry, is usually a better choice than that of the literal meaning, while in certain circumstances the latter one can produce desirable or even magic effects. What is more, related theories from other fields such as linguistics and literary theory are also employed here to guide and explain problems in translation, showing that interdisciplinary vision could provide us with a new way of thinking.
