Abstract: | Balance theory was employed to explain the humor of Late Night with David Letterman. Results showed that the length of a narrative and of the initial audience response were significant predictors of the number of references made to that narrative. Amount of audience response to a reference varied significantly with the ordinal number of that reference. |
