The Language of Scholars as Display

Display — an expression from ethology. One thinks of a rooster in a chicken pen. Thus, the very choice of terms shows that we shall not be speaking of the professional language of the scholar at all, but rather exploring the underlying social and sociopsychological dimension of scientific language.
