The Historical Track of the Chinese Ancient Female Personality

In the extended history of Chinese culture, females have equaled males in population figures, yet one finds scant reference to females in historical books describing contributions to society and social advances; thus they would seem to be insignificant. It is precisely such a cultural atmosphere, where little store is set by women, that has formed the personality traits of the traditional Chinese woman—a woman who is profoundly fettered by a feudal code of ethics, who has little power to resist, and yet who is unwilling to submit to the dictates of the male world.
