There is no question that most of the personages in China's present political arena have studied in the Soviet Union. Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, and others in the third-generation leadership core lived many years in the Soviet Union during the 1950s and 1960s. All speak fluent Russian and are quite well informed about today's Russia and the former Soviet Union.
