| Abstract: | Arthur Dimmesdale is an important role in The Scarlet Letter, the embodiment of the author’s theme of “atonement”.Confronting sin, Arthur struggles against the conflict of humanity and godhood,and finally comes to confess his sin and repent in the call of God’s grace, hence attaining atonement in his death. This paper attempts to put Arthur in the foreground and analyze the process of his atonement, so that the author’s theme can be demonstrated. |
