Key Features and Repositioning of the Engineering Doctorate in the UK

The first Engineering Doctorate programme was established in the United Kingdom in 1992,and from then on,it has grown rapidly,having a positive impact on industry,companies,universities and doctoral students. The Engineering Doctorate programme in the UK is different from the engineering Ph D program in the usual sense,and has its own unique characteristics. For this reason,the British Association of Engineering Doctorates does not support some organizations to classify the Engineering Doctorate as a Professional Doctorate,and it has been working hard for repositioning the Engineering Doctorate. The advantages of the Engineering Doctorate in the UK are:industry-university-research cooperation in training doctoral students,strict standards and project integration. China should learn from the successful experiences of the British Engineering Doctorate Program,reforming and perfecting the Chinese Engineering Doctoral Programme.
