On the Feminine Characters of Merchants' Families

The feminie characters of merchants' families, as well as their images, are typical and particular in the Ming Dynasty's fiction. The stories have vividly depicted, confirmen, or sympathized with the condition and ideology of the women of the merchants' or handicraftsman's families at the middle and late stage of the Ming Dynasty. Under the influence of their families, some of them assister their husbands in trades, some went into trade on their own. There are also some of them who were in conjugal infidelity because of the unbearable long separation and loneliness.The images of these women have reflected the promotion to women's liberation by the Ming Dynasty's commercial activities, and the progress to the ethics of the townseople.
