Abstract: | There is a great deal of evidence to indicate that current problems in American education are so serious that merely reforming the current operational model of schooling will not bring about the desired results. What appears to be needed is major restructuring, or even replacement, of the current schooling model with more efficient and effective systems of instruction and learning. This chapter discusses how new models of schooling should be created and implemented. The chapter also describes a new model of schooling currently being designed by the Center for Educational Technology at Florida State University for the State Department of Education in Florida. Several useful strategies for obtaining support for redesign of schooling and for implementing new schooling models are presented. |
