摘    要:通识教育是美国高等教育的特色,可谓美国高等教育中最具活力的部分,对作为高校血液的教师提出了很大的挑战。通识教育是要教给学生某些价值、态度、知识和技能,使其生活得恰当舒适和丰富美满,让学生能够认同、摄取、内化现实生活中的富丽文化遗产,在职业生涯中以不变应万变。但许多高校教师对通识教育理念的认识存在偏离,对通识教育教学投入时间及精力不足,开展通识教育教学方法僵化。因此,高校教师应肩负起自己的使命,努力做到坚守教育本质和大学使命,坚持学术自由和提高统摄能力,开展多样化的教学方式。高校教师要为了通识教育而通力合作,为使学生有通达的人生而担负起自己的责任。

Abstract:Liberal education is the feature of American higher education, also the most vigorous part of it. Such a mode of education poses great challenges to college teachers, who are supposed to impart certain values, attitudes, knowledge and skills enabling students to live a comfortable and happy life and to identify with, take in, and internalize the rich cultural heritage in life so that they can stay con- stant in their careers. But many college teachers misunderstand the philosophy of liberal education, spend little time or energy on it, and resort to ossified teaching methods. It is proposed that college teachers should take pains to carry out their educational mission by insisting on academic freedom and using diversified teaching methods. They have to cooperate to ensure a successful liberal education.
