On Faulkner's Southern Complex in A Rose for Emily

William Faulkner set many of his works in the imaginary Yoknapatawpha County,a microcosm of the postbellum South,in which he explored the decay of traditional southern values.His famous short story,A Rose for Emily is counted an epitome of the characters in his Yoknapatawpha system and crowns nearly all aspects of the springheads of Faulkner's southern complex.This paper attempts to decode Faulkner's complex feelings towards his southern native land by analyzing the patriarchy,sexism and racism reflected from this short story.
