| Abstract: | By detailed analysis of the inescapable fate of the heroine Tess in Tess of D'Urbervilles, this paper aims to reveal Hardy's special attention paid to the wretched fate of women and his attack on men in the phalli centric society whose oppressions are directly responsible for women's sufferings, and by doing so, Hardy must have helped women's awakenings and so must have contributed to the feminist movement in the following years. |
