After Langdarma was assassinated, the ruling group of Tibet was torn by internal strife. Tibet was again under the state of separation and Buddhism declined. In the late period of the 10th century, with the constant efforts by Buddhist monks and the support of Guge Kingdom, Buddhism began to revive in Tibet.
