英语无等值物词及其可译性探索

中西方在历史背景、社会习俗、宗教文化、意识形态等方面的差异为跨文化翻译提出了许多值得商榷的问题。无等值物词便是其中的一个方面 ,一些反映西方传统文化特色的词在汉语中几乎无对应或相近的表达方式。是否无等值物词真的属于不可译之列 ?本文从翻译的定义与标准 ,人类语言与思维的共性和跨文化翻译的实践三方面论述了无等值物词翻译的可能性。

Studies on the Possibility of Translation of Non - equivalent Words

The differences between China and West in history, social customs, religious practices, ideology and etc. bring forth many issues that need to be addressed in the process of translation. One of them is "non-equivalent words", that is, some words and expressions conveying the features of English traditional culture have no equivalents in Chinese. Is it possible to translate them? This paper discusses the possibility of translation on the basis of the definition and standard of translation, the generality of human language and thought and the practice of intercultural translation.
