大学文化的基本特性是对大学文化共性特征的科学概括,是每一所大学建立鲜明个性特征的基础,是大学能够维持自己基本特性的核心价值体系.大学文化的基本特性体现在五个方面:大学文化是以精神文化为核心的整体性文化;大学文化是以高深学术为基础的高层次文化;大学文化是以学术自由为前提的创造性文化;大学文化是以自治自律为特征的自主性文化;大学文化是以人文品格为标志的涵养型文化.在不同的时代、不同的国家,大学在适应社会发展的过程中发展着、变化着,但它却始终维护着自身知识权威的地位,不断地继承着所有这些发展变化过程中积淀的优秀文化传统,在继承和坚守中丰富和发展着自己的文化特性与行为准则.
