唐代文言小说与科举制度论略

根据对唐代科举选官制度和文言短篇小说创作情况的考察,本文提出:唐代的科举制度造就了一个不同于往古的读书士子人群,也造就了唐代文言短篇小说的作者和读者群体;在科举制度下形成的唐代士风--科举士子所共同体现出来的行为方式、价值观念、精神心理、文学风习等,是中国散文体短篇小说在以往叙事艺术积累的基础上得以成熟的"必要条件",同时也决定了唐代文言短篇小说的精神内容和美学风貌。

A Brief Discussion of Classical Language Stories in Tang Dynasty and the Imperial Examination System

On the basis of an investigation of the imperial examination system and short stories in classical Chinese in the Tang Dynasty, this paper points out that the imperial examination system for selection of officials contributed to the bringing up of a large number of scholars who were different from those in the previous ancient times, and that this system also helped bring up the groups of writers and readers of short stories in classical Chinese in the Tang Dynasty. The style of scholars in the Tang Dynastyshaped by the imperial examination system--the behavior patterns, value concepts, psychological spirit, and literature trendsand habits displayed collectively by the scholars who successfully passed the imperial examination--was " the necessary prerequisite" which made it possible for the Chinese short stories in the form of prose to develop and grow mature on the basis of accumulation of previous narration art; meanwhile, this type of style determined the substantial essence and aesthetic flavor of short stories in classical Chinese in the Tang Dynasty.
