RELAYS General characteristics Relay comprises a number of legs each of which is covered by a different athlete.Though there are standard events,relays and relay legs can be of any distance and often the various team members.In track relays each runner carries a baton by hand while running and at the completion of his or her leg exchanges it with the next leg runner.In road or cross country relays batons,sashes. and even the touch of hands can be used for the ex- changes.
