论近代镇江的金融业

近代镇江的金融业在镇江开埠后迅猛发展起来,盛极一时,有“银码头”之称,在发展的过程中形成了银行业所占比例不大,功效也不大,钱庄的作用突出,以商业放款和汇兑为主,与工业的联系不大,与上海的联系比较紧密的特点,19世纪末20世纪初,由于客观环境,政治环境,社会环境及主观因素等多方面的影响,镇江的金融业逐渐衰落。

On Banking in Zhenjiang in Modern Times

Banking in Zhenjiang had developed and prospered in modern times ever since its port, known as the "silver port"then, was opened to the outside world. The development of banking in Zhenjiang evolved some characteristics. First, the banking took a small market share with a low effciency while money shops played an outstanding role. Second, its main activities were offering commercial loans and providing exchange service, with little link with the industry. Third, banking in Zhenjiang was closely connected with that in Shanghai. It began to decline at the late 19th and early 20th century due to the physical, political and social environment as well as some artificial factors.
