Critical linguistics is a tool of discourse analysis.Using this new method,we can analyze and discover the ideology hidden deeply in the discourse,therefore having a brand new look at what we have taken for gr anted in our daily life.Critical discourse analysis is based on Halliday＇s fun ctional linguistics.This article conducts a critical analysis towards some Amer ican news reports based on Halliday＇s idea of ＂choice is meaning＂ and tries t o reveal how America is promulgating its own ideology and at the same time influ encing that of the readers＇ through mass-media channel,which will play an enlightening role in improving our identifying and judging ability and counter-control awareness when reading the news reports.
