北魏洛阳城用以覆盖房顶的瓦呈现光亮的黑色褐色,出现莲花图纹。瓦当呈现同样的光亮的颜色,图纹呈兽首与莲花,莲花纹瓦当普遍使用。宫城城墙以及高贵建筑物墙体涂抹白灰朱粉为装饰。洛阳城黄色的城垣内,建筑物顶部覆盖的板、筒瓦色调深重,兽首、莲花纹瓦当展现出威严与宗教气氛。其间白灰朱红涂墙,又在威严与神秘气氛中展现了活泼和世俗。

Roof tiles of Luoyang in North Wei Dynasty were black or brown and glossy with lotus texture.Eaves tiles were of the same colors,with textures of beast head or lotus,which were rather common.Walls of imperial palaces and royal buildings were coated with white surfacer and decorated with red paint.Within the yellow walls of Luoyang,the roofs of buildings were covered with boards or pantiles of dark colors.Eaves tiles with beast head or lotus texture projected stately and religious atmosphere.White and red coated walls among the buildings manufactured a lively and worldly atmosphere.
