郭秉文与东南大学的学术文化交流

郭秉文是中国第二所国立综合性大学即东南大学的创始人,主张平等对待中西文化,吸收其精华而形成新的文化。大学要担负起这种使命,必须首先成为国内、国际学术交流的中心。在这一思想的指导下,东南大学迅速成为国内最大的学术交流中心,不仅是中国科学社的大本营、学衡派的策源地,还是中国新教育的中心、史地研究会的所在地。同时,东南大学又是国际学术和文化交流的窗口,每年都邀请各国的著名学者来东南大学访学、讲演;东南大学也选派留学生、教师出国学习、考察,并尝试利用外资,开展中外合作办学,参与国际教育事务管理。在此交流过程中,东南大学迅速崛起,成为蜚声海内外的高等学府。

Ping - Wen Kuo and Academic and Culture Exchanges of Southeast University

Ping- Wen Kuo was the founder of National Southeast University which is the second comprehensive university in China. He advocated that we should treat Chinese and western culture equally and absorb their essence to create a new culture. If a university wants to take this mission, it must be a domestic and international academic exchange center at first. Based on this thought, National Southeast University soon became the largest domestic academic exchange center in China at that time. It was not only the base of Science Society of China, and the birth- place of Hsueh - heng School, but also the ＂new education＂ center of China and the site of History and Geography Research Association. Every year National Southeast University not only frequently invites renowned scholars from home and abroad to deliver lectures but also sends quite a number of students and teachers to study, do investigation or receive training abroad. National Southeast University also tries to use foreign capital and carry out Chinese- foreign cooperation in running schools while participating in international education affairs managemem at the same time. In the course of the exchange, National Southeast University increasingly has received good reputation from home and abroad.
