Abstract: | Christine Barber, now working with Durham LEA's Special Educational Needs Support Service (SENSS), discusses some of the issues arising from the integration of a very able pupil with Asperger Syndrome into an 11 - 16 comprehensive school. Her case study considers not only the use of acceleration , as a means of ensuring that the pupil reaches his full potential, but also emphasises the need for a structured programme to develop social skills, promote acceptable behaviour, and prepare for life in the adult world. |
