Abstract:Shakespeare's eleven histories show clearly a phenomenon:practically every successor to the crown suffered a lot. Some suffered positively, which might bring about welfare to thd people. Some suffered negatively, and brought disaster. While some, often youngsters, were merely victims in the bloody struggles for the crown. All such disasters came from the chronic malady innate in the system for the succession to the throne, which caused not only profuse bloddshed in kings' families, but also disaster and warfare to the society. By representing such phenomena on the stage Shakespeare caused deep thinking.
Keywords:succession to the throne  sufferings  innate malady  historical insight
