抗战期间衡阳直接损失述要

战时衡阳是大后方的交通枢纽,第三大工商业城市和金融中心,战略地位相当重要;为了摧毁衡阳,日军对衡阳及周边各县进行了频繁的猛烈轰炸,并于1944年摧毁了衡阳城,占领周边各县,实行野蛮的“三光”政策。据不完全统计,战时衡阳人口伤亡超过80万,公私财产直接损失至少在3亿美元以上。
