Abstract: | One can see, in many countries, a rapid increase of the number of girls and women entering engineering education. This recent and optimistic trend must not hide the serious fact that the engineering studies cover the sectors of higher education where women are the more under-represented. Within a report produced for UNESCO (to be published at the end of 1986), and within this paper, the author demonstrates that engineering education is three times less feminized than the average of higher education sectors. The result for engineering is that there is an important misuse of human resources. Women engineers could be crucial to the satisfactory developments of the engineering professions. |
