A Comparative Study of Shakespeare's and Guo Moruo's Plays

Through a comparative study of Shakespeare＇ s and Guo Moruo＇ s plays, it is discovered that Shakespeare touched upon humanity in his plays early in the 16th century whereas Guo Moruo didn＇t do so even 400 years later, the external cause of which is that social reality in the 20th-century China allowed little room for drama to delve into humanity while the internal cause is that Guo Moruo＇ s plays are so affected by Schiller that characters in his plays have become the mouthpieces of their epochal spirit in that their behavior has always moved towards the expression of relevant themes. Nevertheless, with different artistic styles and features, Guo Moruo＇ s plays are charged with distinctive oriental appeal, which results from not only the impact of Chinese tradition in art and literature but also the unique choice of his artistic individuality.
